Hi Loves! Happy Tuesday. Has everyone recovered from the holiday hangover yet. Its so hard to get back into the groove of life after the holidays. It was so nice to have some free time to spend with Beckett and my family. Now we are back to the grind and back to our routine which is nice. I am excited to be sharing two posts a week with you guys again too. I missed this little space of mine so much during the holidays and I definitely have some fun things planned for you guys for this year. I am still trying to get fully settled into our new house and I was on the hunt for the perfect wall hanging for above our guest bed. After keeping my eye out for awhile and still not finding anything I liked I decided to put together this Simple + Modern DIY Yarn Wall Hanging to go in that space. I was excited to choose the exact colors I wanted that go with the room.
I went to Joanns and picked out a choice of yarn that fit my color scheme. I kept everything fairly neutral and simple as that is just my jam right now. I used eight different yarns for this but you could use less and just double up the colors if you wanted. Don’t forget your coupons. I also picked up a wood dowel, all of the wood dowels came in 36″ which was a little to long for me so I had my hubby cut it down just a bit. You can make a much smaller one of these as well if you want. I was looking to make a bigger one to fill the space above the bed.
First thing I did was measure how long I wanted my wall hanging to be by simply holding my yarn up to the dowel and seeing where it would hit length wise. I would make it longer than you think because you will be trimming it at the end with scissors to create the angle. Once you have your yarn length measured out DOUBLE IT. If 24″ looks like a good length, your measurement for your yarn pieces will be 48″. I did about 7 at this length per section. You can also just keep your yarn attached to the spool and take your one piece at 48″ and keep measuring it out 7 times. Once you have your 7 pieces at 48″ your going to fold it in half and create a larks head knot on your dowel. You fold the center over the top of the dowel and pull the rest of the yarn up through the hole. As you see in the picture above I did a regular knot on my end pieces to give it a little added flair. Repeat this process for all of your colors. See video below for quick tutorial on how to tie the knot to the dowel.
Once you have gotten each bunch of yarn tied to your dowel in the color order you like, you simply give that baby a little haircut. Trim it at an angle to create the point in the center or just leave it as is if you like the straight horizontal look. I braided a few of mine to give it some added texture. I had a piece of suede left over from my Christmas wrapping that I used as the hanger but any twine will do for that.
Viola! Looks so great in our little guest room. It really added just the boho touch I was looking for over the bed. I hope you guys enjoyed this super simple DIY yarn wall hanging. I hope everyone is settling back into life after the holiday craze. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I know I say this a lot but it really means the world to me when you stop on over here. This little space of mine means so much to me. Please let me know your thoughts below or simply just say hello in the comments. I love hearing from you all. Cheers babes!
